Where does Chocolate come from?
Year 3 have had a fabulous time learning all about Chocolate during our first half term. As part of our Chocolate topic, we were lucky enough to take part in a Chocolate workshop. The Ministry of Chocolate came to our school and delivered the chocolate journey. It was lots of fun! Co-op in Thornton supported us by donating £200 to help pay for our workshop. Co-op supports Fairtrade ensuring that everyone involved in supplying the products are treated fairly. Co-op work to improve the lives of everyone throughout their supply chain, from communities to the people who work in their stores. We have also been very lucky to receive a donation of chocolate and ingredients from Co-op so that we could all design and create our own chocolate creations.

A Long, long time ago
Year 3 have been very busy this half term learning all about The Stone Age. The children have made Stone Age Jewellery using salt dough and cave paintings using different chalk and pastels. The children took part in an interactive History work shop, delivered by Professor Tuesday. The children handled many artefacts and discussed what they thought each artefact what and what it would have been used for during the Stone Age times. The workshop gave the children the opportunity to use their imagination and helped them to gave a real understanding of the Stone Age.

Spring Term 1
During this half term Year 3 have been learning all about Volcanoes. Our Science topic this half term has been rocks. The children have taken part in a rocks workshop where they were able to handle many different types of rocks. During the workshop the children had the opportunity to erupt a model volcano. In art the children have made a volcano model to represent the cross section of a volcano, out of clay. The children had lots of fun moulding the clay and then painting it once it was dry.
